Minister Kristy McBain's Message – AUSTRALIA DAY 2023

On behalf of the Australian Government, I would like to wish the Norfolk community a happy and safe Australia Day.

I am extremely thankful that this year we can unite with family and friends, and as a community, reflect on our history, our people and the bonds that unite us as Australians.

Norfolk Island is a living testament to our rich and vibrant history, and its residents continue to play an important role in the mosaic of our national identity.

It is this richness and diversity of cultures that makes Australia so extraordinary, and I would particularly like to recognise the significance of the Norfolk Island culture and customs, which I have been so fortunate to experience.

I would like to thank everyone in the community for the diverse contribution you make, not only to Norfolk Island, but to the nation, whose national character has been built upon the back of communities such as yours.

I would also like to extend a particular welcome to the new citizens who are being sworn in today, and look forward with great anticipation to seeing all that you will contribute to this community and country in the years to come.

It is because of each and every one of you that the future of Australia remains so bright.

I hope that you all enjoy Australia Day, and that 2023 brings you, your family and friends happiness and prosperity.
