Next step towards future RAC facility for Norfolk Island

22 November 2024

The Australian Government continues to progress the new Residential Aged Care (RAC) project for Norfolk Island, now inviting organisations to register their interest in delivering the replacement facility.

The Australian Government announced its investment in a new 16-bed RAC, mortuary and ancillary services building late last year, supporting more modern aged care facilities for the island.

The Invitation to Register (ITR) is an important step in the multi-stage process to construct the new RAC.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (the department), on behalf of the Australian Government, has published the ITR on AusTender, with the next step of shortlisting respondents expected to begin early next year.

Once the shortlist has been compiled, and dependent on approvals, the full tender process will follow in 2025, with construction works anticipated to begin in mid-2026.

Work is currently being finalised on the concept design for the project, with the full design expected to be completed next year. The design will reflect earlier community consultations on its elements.

We anticipate commencing the Development Application (DA) approval process, including an Environmental Impact Statement, over the next year, which will include public exhibition of the DA.

During this process, the community will be able to see the proposed concepts, and let us know your opinions, helping inform the future RAC.

The ITR has been published on AusTender and can be accessed at www.tenders.gov.au with the ID: 10030152

The tender process is open until Monday, 13 January 2025

We will continue to keep the community updated throughout the procurement process. If you have any questions, please contact territories_projects@infrastructure.gov.au
