Collections Officer

Norfolk Island Museum boasts some of the most interesting items in maritime, convict and local history. Norfolk Island is proud of our collections and we’re seeking an experienced collections officer to preserve and conserve the island’s treasures.

The successful applicant will have experience and a high level of attention to detail in aspects of documenting, preserving and conserving museum objects.

As a team leader, you will guide the collections assistant in Heritage Management compliance, work with autonomy and inspire the museums team to care for the collections so they are accessible to the Norfolk Island community for years to come.

Collections Assistant

Are you curious about historic items such as a convict’s leg iron and how to preserve it to inspire wonder for future generations?

If so, the Collections Assistant role will teach you the fundamentals of collection management. You will assist the collections officer in the preservation and conservation of Norfolk Island’s tangible history. The successful person will work in a structured environment, learn heritage compliance and be safety conscious.

This is a great introductory role for anyone with an interest in preserving Norfolk Island’s rich history.

Education and Interpretation Officer

If you love research, design and marketing, then this role is for you.

We are seeking a creative person to develop educational visitor and interpretative resources, develop media and promotional materials for Kingston Museums, for delivery through a variety of platforms including social media. The successful person will work within a structured environment where high quality delivery is paramount, you possess the skills to work with accuracy and autonomy. As a team member you will scan the environment, identifying opportunities for visitor education and experience – the creative licence is yours!

Museum Attendant / Tour Guide

Do you have a passion for sharing Norfolk Island’s incredible history? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are seeking guides/attendants to lead visitors through our World Heritage-listed site and attend our four museums. Successful applicants will possess vitality, a genuine interest in others and ability to inspire by sharing the richness of Kingston’s stories. As a team member, you will be safety-conscious, customer-focused and – above all – provide an unforgettable visitor experience within a structured environment.

Successful applicants for these positions will be employed by the Norfolk Island Regional Council (NIRC) under its Enterprise Agreement and then seconded to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.
