Roll on down to the skatepark workshop

In partnership with award-winning skatepark designers, CONVIC, Council is holding a public pre-design workshop to find out what skatepark users and residents would like to see in the new space.

The design team at CONVIC has worked on projects in remote locations like Lord Howe Island and Christmas Island, and brings a mix of landscape architecture and specialist youth and play facility design knowledge.

By having input in this pre-design stage of the project, residents of the island can help create a contemporary skatepark that will be used and enjoyed by the young (and young at heart) now and into the future.

There will be an online survey opening on 21 February for those who are unable to attend the in-person workshop, and a student session will be held at Norfolk Island Central School.

The Design Workshop will be held on Thursday 22 February from 4.30pm at the Supper Room on Taylors Road. Full details at https://bit.ly/3SwRysv

Community volunteers digging deep

With just six months of operation behind them, the volunteer base behind Flora Force is showing they are a force to be reckoned with.

The group is the backbone of the Norfolk Island Community Nursery, with more than 100 hours of volunteer hours already worked. In that time, they have propagated 3,283 native plants, from 26 different species.

Most of these plants will go back into public reserves or parks but any excess will be available for the community to purchase when they are big enough to plant out.

Anyone interested in volunteering their time with Flora Force should call Leah on 56611 or Sara on 55089.

Help Us Measure Island Inflation

NIRC is currently running a Household Expenditure Survey (HES), which launched with part 1 on 5 February 2024.

The HES provides important data to help measure inflation by collecting information about the day-to-day expenditure of Norfolk Island households. The data is used to update the “Shopping Basket” used for the Retail Price Index (RPI), which measures inflation on the island.

Part 1 of the survey involves completing an online expenditure diary, recording daily expenditure items for one week, between 5 and 11 February.

Part 2 of the survey asks questions about numbers and ages of household members and their expenditure, between 12 and 16 February.

The survey has been set up so that it will be impossible to identify an individual or household from any published data. All information provided will be strictly confidential.

Any resident needing assistance with the survey can make an appointment with Melissa Giest at the Visitor Information Centre from 8:30am to 4:30pm on Monday 12 February.

To book an appointment with Melissa, simply call 22147.
