Norfolk Island Teacher Consultative Committee – Communique #14

The Committee met on Thursday 9 December 2021.

The Committee received an update from Queensland Department of Education on the recent visit by education officials to Norfolk Island. Offers of employment have been made by Queensland to existing staff and recruitment processes are underway to fill a number of vacant positions. NICS Teaching staff were encouraged to take advantage of the financial support available from the Commonwealth to obtain independent financial advice to inform any decisions on employment arrangement for 2022 onwards.

An agreement has been reached between New South Wales Department of Education and Queensland Department of Education on leave portability arrangements. Work is ongoing to address the outstanding issues regarding superannuation.

The Committee agreed to continue to meet until outstanding transition issues have been resolved.

The Committee will meet again on Thursday 16 December 2021.
