Island Style Cook, Live & Eat Cook Book

Cook live and eat island style began with an idea of mum’s nearly two years ago on our way back home from Fiji. Our combined family love of Fiji and Norfolk it was obvious to her that we needed to document our traditional foods and produce. The love of the island people and how we all make use of available, seasonal produce, and never taking these natural gifts for granted. With the solid idea of producing something as a souvenir for our visitors here and Fiji, the book is light to carry, visually attractive and the idea is also to further promote our tourism and island traditions.

Fiji and Norfolk are very similar in the way of lifestyle, family, foods and celebration. So this is how our brand name and cook book begun. With mum and ernie’s business commitment and a thousand children and all their friends, time to complete the writing of the book was very limited. For once it wasn’t us kids… From here she then approached Jodie Williams with 48 pages of written words and asked for jodies knowledge and skill in taking the next step… now with the book being 88 pages Jodie was faboulous, and extreamly patient.

The hours of work put into the production, paper spread all over the house, and piecing it together was a huge challenge. Then we all became involved where we tested the recipes, and set up for Jodie to shoot the images for the book. This was so much fun working with Jodie, and also a session with brett where is designer skills were handy also. We had many laughs and enjoyed every minute of it. Toni at photo press was marvelous, running off dummy prints so we could get a visual perspective then cut, paste, rearrange and so on. Thank you to nana for the final editing… because es true mum kaa spell. Ant to the wonderful Norfolk growers for proving beautiful fresh produce, for the photo shoots, and in particular gaye and dids with their picking and delivering, as sometimes it was of short notice. Trev Gow and jhonny cb for their wonderful skills and the best setting in the house for the photos it was the perfect kitchen for the design set.

A special thank you to ernie and his family for bringing our island homes together. Reme, who took on the strain of extra work. And to our beautiful family for putting up the process and of course supporting mum and encouraging her to pursue this amazing idea, using incredible creativity and encouraging our traditions.
